After working in various patient care roles for almost 10 years, I was ready for a change. I decided to move away from patient care and instead pursue a more behind-the-scenes role in medical billing and coding. I chose Herzing University because of its reputation.
Balancing my educational commitments with my family commitments was challenging at times, especially with four children. Learning to prioritize my tasks was essential to my success. With the proper organizational skills, I was able to not only keep up with my family priorities but also finish my degree with a 4.0 GPA. It was difficult, but not impossible.
Once I graduated, I decided to sit for two credentialing examinations, the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) exam and the Certified Coding Associate (CCA) exam. I passed both exams with flying colors and within weeks of becoming certified I had four job offers. I accepted an outpatient coding position at a local hospital.
Herzing University helped me succeed in earning my degree and the program also successfully prepared me for my coding certification exams. I look forward to continuing my new career journey in this ever-growing field of health information management.
